Looking at the light fishing lines often used in Japan it's pretty obvious that sudden shocks will break them and lose big fish. To allow for that, a rubber shock cord is often incorporated into the rig, in this case including a sinker.
A word of warning about trolling with any of these products though, they can stretch and return to you like a bullet!
